Nobody photographs the sub-base. It's also the reason your neighbor's pad tilted and yours won't.
Grading before anything else
Water has to leave the slab and keep leaving it. We set slope deliberately, away from structures — a dead-flat pad is a pond waiting for winter.
Compaction is not optional
Loose fill settles. Compacted, properly sized base material doesn't. This is the step that gets skipped on bargain bids because you can't see it after the pour.
Where the water goes next
Redirecting water off a slab and into a neighbor's yard isn't a solution. We plan the whole runoff path — that's also why the Neighborhood Protection Plan exists.
Signs prep was skipped
Standing water, a tilted pad, cracking near the edges, or a gap opening under one side. All four trace back to the same day of work nobody watched.
The short version
Ask any bidder exactly how they're prepping the base. The answer tells you what you're buying.
