Concrete Patios vs. Pavers: Which Is Better?

Cost, maintenance, weeds, settling, and repairability — where each one genuinely wins.

Pavers look great in the showroom. So does a stamped slab. The differences show up two summers later.

Maintenance reality

Pavers have joints, and joints host weeds and ants and slowly lose sand. A poured patio has planned control joints and nothing else to fill. If low upkeep is the goal, concrete wins clearly.

Settling and movement

Individual pavers can shift and become trip points, though they can also be individually reset. A reinforced slab moves as one piece — it's less likely to become uneven, but repairs are section-based rather than piece-based.

Look and design range

Pavers offer modularity and pattern. Stamped and bordered concrete now covers most of that range at a continuous surface. It comes down to the look you want and how much upkeep you'll actually do.

When we'd point you to pavers

If you expect to reroute utilities under the patio, or you want a surface you can lift and reset yourself, pavers are the better fit. We'd rather tell you that than pour something you'll regret.

The short version

Pavers for modularity, concrete for low maintenance and a continuous, designed surface.
