ADU & Home Addition Foundation Considerations

Sequencing, permits, inspections, and the site work that has to happen first.

An ADU foundation is a scheduling project as much as a concrete project. Knowing the sequence keeps you from paying for delays.

Plans and permits come first

Nothing gets poured before the plan set and permit path are settled. Permits are written into the proposal scope where the project requires them, so they aren't a surprise later.

Site access and utilities

Backyard ADUs often mean equipment through a side gate and utilities to locate. Access is assessed at the walkthrough because it genuinely changes the plan.

Grading and drainage

The water that used to run across that part of the yard now has to go somewhere else. We plan that before forming, not after the first winter.

Inspections and phasing

The project runs in phases, billed against the milestones in your proposal, with photo updates at every stage — including the parts that get buried.

The short version

Sequence the plans, permits, access, and drainage first; the pour is the straightforward part.
